Highway 11: Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway

SC 11 crosses the northern end of Pickens County for about 18 miles as the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway. Along the way it crosses Lake Keowee, meets SC 133 at Keowee-Toxaway State Park, passes Table Rock State Park, and meets US 178 and SC 8.

Highway 183

SC 183 runs through the city of Pickens and east as Farrs Bridge Road. SCDOT’s 2026 Pickens County Pavements Improvement Project on SC 183 covers milling, resurfacing, guardrail and related work, with daytime lane closures SCDOT expected to finish at the end of September 2026. The county’s road maintenance site maps the stretch of Highway 183 set to be upgraded. SCDOT reopened the SC 183 bridges over Twelve Mile Creek and Gregory Creek in November 2025, after closing them in September 2024. Its 2023 plans also call for a roundabout where SC 183 (Farrs Bridge Road) meets Jameson Road (S-95), after 23 crashes there from 2020 to 2022.

Highway 8

SC 8 connects Easley and Pickens as a four-lane road for about eight miles, then heads north as Pumpkintown Highway through Pumpkintown to SC 11. It crosses US 123 without an interchange. SCDOT closed the SC 8 bridge over the Oolenoy River starting June 1, 2026 for repairs expected to run through the summer, with a detour on Highway 11, Highway 178, Moorefield Memorial Highway and Main Street.

US 123: Calhoun Memorial Highway

US 123 is the county’s main east–west route, linking Easley, Liberty, Central and Clemson. It is a five-lane street through Easley and through Clemson, where it is Tiger Boulevard, and a four-lane divided freeway through the rural stretch between, with interchanges at SC 135 and US 178. In 2022 the Greenville-Pickens Area Transportation Study said major traffic relief in Clemson was likely a decade or more away.

Highway 93

SC 93 is the original route of US 123. It runs 19.8 miles, all inside Pickens County, from Clemson through Central, Norris and Liberty to Easley, where it becomes Liberty Drive and Main Street.

US 178

US 178 comes down from the North Carolina line through Rocky Bottom, Pickens and Liberty toward Anderson County. The mountain section, Moorefield Memorial Highway, climbs to Eastatoe Gap, and at Rocky Bottom the F. Van Clayton Memorial Highway leads up to Sassafras Mountain, the highest point in South Carolina. US 178 widens to four lanes through Pickens and has an interchange with US 123 just south of Liberty.

Highway 153

Bridge closures

SCDOT has closed a number of Pickens County bridges for repair or replacement in the last few years. In July 2025 nine were closed, including the SC 133 Crowe Creek Road bridge between Nine Times and Six Mile, which partly collapsed when an overweight truck crossed it. By January 2026, six were still closed. The SC 183 bridges over Twelve Mile Creek and Gregory Creek reopened in November 2025, and the SC 8 bridge over the Oolenoy River closed for repairs in June 2026.
